For over a decade, Jangu International has been at the forefront of transforming education for vulnerable groups and empowering communities through social entrepreneurship. Our mission is to support young people in creating their own solutions and social enterprises that address the root causes of social challenges. We provide a freesponsible and regenerative learning space where innovation and collaboration thrive.

Who Should Apply? We are looking for out-of-school youth aged 18-30 who:

Reside in Uganda
Come from marginalized backgrounds, displaced communities, or refugee settings

As the year came to a close, Jangu International bid farewell to physical empowerment programs for the end-of-year holidays. Bringing together scholars and facilitators, the organization celebrated a day filled with various entertaining and team-building activities. The ultimate highlight was the unforgettable end-of-year party, where the community rejoiced in camaraderie, pure joy, and the collective achievements of a year filled with growth, resilience, and community.

Embracing the Power of Unity:

At Jangu International, the significance of unity and community is deeply cherished. The end-of-year celebration was a testament to the spirit of togetherness as scholars and facilitators came together as one, transcending barriers and fostering strong bonds. The Bamboo Summit serves as a platform to celebrate the boundless possibilities offered by bamboo while promoting its sustainable development. It will be an immersive experience featuring expert-led seminars, open space discussions, and engaging hands-on learning opportunities.

The summit will commence with a captivating introductory speech by Jorg Stamm, a world-renowned bamboo builder and expert, setting the stage for an insightful and transformative event.

Anticipating the participation of around 50 individuals from various sectors, including bamboo executives, government officials, developers, artisans, architects, farmers, and members of the tourism industry, this gathering promises to drive the region’s bamboo industry forward. By bringing together the best minds from around the world, we aim to create a collaborative network that will pave the way for long-lasting partnerships and sustainable growth.

One of the highlights of the summit will be the design and construction of a parabolic bamboo tower and surrounding gardens, offering participants a hands-on opportunity to explore the practical applications of bamboo in construction and design. This interactive learning experience will undoubtedly inspire innovation and creativity.

As the summit progresses, participants will engage in expert-led seminars and rigorous open space discussions, fostering meaningful conversations on the sustainable use of bamboo, its environmental impact, and its potential for economic growth. Exploring the Versatility of Bamboo: Highlights from the Five-Day Workshop at Jangu International

Bamboo, a regenerative crop known for its remarkable versatility, took center stage during the recently concluded five-day Bamboo Workshop at Jangu International, with the facilitation of Divine Bamboo and the generous support of our partners, Afrika Rise. This workshop aimed to delve into the various values and preciousness of bamboo, spanning its applications in construction, food, and beyond. With active participation from scholars and community members, it was a truly engaging and enlightening experience.

“Did you know that bamboo is one of the fastest-growing plants on Earth? Some species can grow up to 91 centimeters (36 inches) in just 24 hours! This rapid growth rate, combined with its ability to regenerate from its root system, makes bamboo an environmentally friendly choice.”

Day One: Exploring Different Bamboo Species

On the first day of the workshop, we delved into the world of bamboo by exploring its diverse species. Participants learned about the unique characteristics and properties of various bamboo types, gaining valuable insights into their growth patterns, availability, and suitability for different purposes.

Days Two and Three: Unleashing Green Fingers – Planting Bamboo

Days two and three focused on the crucial aspect of bamboo cultivation. Participants were actively involved in hands-on sessions, where they learned best practices for bamboo planting. From preparing the soil to selecting suitable bamboo shoots, attendees gained practical knowledge and skills to ensure successful bamboo growth.

Days Four and Five: Unleashing Creativity – Bamboo Weaving and Product Creation

The excitement peaked on days four and five as participants were guided through the art of bamboo weaving. Trainers provided step-by-step instructions on various weaving techniques, leading to the creation of stunning bamboo products such as table mats, lamp shades, and more. This hands-on experience allowed individuals to explore their creativity and witness the incredible potential of bamboo as a versatile material for crafts.
