Our Story Since 2014

Empowering disadvantaged youth through self-organized learning to become social entrepreneurs and create positive change in communities worldwide.

The birth of the idea

Jangu International began in 2014, after years of providing educational sponsorships to orphans. The graduates from the program were unable to attend university due to the high tuition fees, and those who did attend higher education institutions were unable to secure meaningful employment. The founder (Etienne salborn) realized that a new approach was needed to address these challenges, and so the idea for Jangu International was born.

Jangu International is a unique self-organized learning space that provides marginalized and school dropouts with the pathways, tools, and mindset needed to set a vision for themselves and become social entrepreneurs. Through this approach, Jangu International aims to create jobs and make a positive impact in the community.

The evolution of an idea

Over time, the idea for Jangu International evolved as it was prototyped, tested, and proven successful. It became clear that the approach taken by Jangu International had the potential to make a much broader impact beyond just its local community. As a result, the model was scaled out from Mpigi to refugee camps in Uganda and across other African countries, becoming known as the SINA model. SINA, or Social Innovation Academy, is a sister entity that is creating a global movement of regenerative self-organized learning spaces.

The growth of the idea

As Jangu International continues to grow and evolve, Our focus remains on providing marginalized individuals with the skills and resources they need to become social entrepreneurs and create positive change in their communities. By prioritizing sustainable development goals and adopting a unique self-organized learning approach, Jangu International is making a real difference in the lives of individuals and communities across Uganda and beyond.
